Sleepless mind and body
I
have to keep my legs still
cause she’s frozen between them.
I don’t want to wake her;
she’s finally asleep.
If I don’t close my eyes
and I stay up till seven
a.m. in the morning,
I won’t lose this thought:
Out of sight, we get mad;
on the phone, we go silent;
we don’t share our secrets
except in our lies.
Last month we could not find
where she began and I ended.
Last week, we were at war.
Tonight’s a cease-fire.
Put down your bloodied daggers,
take off your bullet belts,
here’s a pen won’t you sign
right here. It’s a document—right
there by the x—a cease-fire.
